Road Trip to the Countryside- Enchanting Saputara

Located just 88 km from Nasik is the lesser known hill station Saputara in Gujarat. Forming a part of the Western ghats, Saputara is at an altitude of about 1000 metres. Scenic landscapes, breathtaking hillocks and rock formations, serene lakes and a soothing weather is all what you need for a summer escapade.The shortest route to the hill station is along SH-17 via Dindori. The route is ideal for a road trip with negligible bad patches on the way. 

Planning your Trip:

The best way to reach the spot is to take the route via Dindori. There is only one toll as you enter into Gujarat for Saputara and it charges Rs.35/- for one time entry only. Hence, no need to be bothered much about the toll booths. The roads network is generally good as you travel from Nasik to Dindori; it gets a little rough thereafter but that is insignificant and will not deter you from enjoying the trip. Watch for those bumpy speed breakers on the way, as also the Strawberry, blueberry sellers along the road. They are refreshing and is a must try on the go.

The best time to go to Saputara is of course the summers, as the weather remains pleasant and cool. The Satpura ranges offers a gradient that can serve both adventure seekers as well as leisure travelers. The temperatures run generally between 17° C and 29° C.The main town has host of travel services in place and is suitable for a weekend stay and hangout at short notice.

  • Go Hiking:

    With a decent altitude of 1000 metres (approximately 3500 ft), semi-dense forestation and near vertical cliffs, Saputara can offer hikers with a challenging climb, as also pose an equal effort for the rock-climbers. Grab your camping gear and go full-on as the Sahyadris will give you a conquest along with the pleasure of a scenic beauty.

  • Camp with a Bonfire:

The gentle breeze, soothing climate, and low lying clouds with a moderate chill in the air can be an exciting way of enjoying the campfire. Be aware though that Saputara means the ‘Land of the Serpents’, and those who seek adventure embrace the wild with a poise. That’s part of the seeker of course!!

  • Climb Up the viewpoint at Governor’s Hill:

    Ready for the ride

    Let your adrenaline race as your ride climbs up the unusual road alignment atop the Governor’s hill. Enjoy camel and horse-riding here and try your hands on the dirt bike. Munch some ‘sweet-corn’ and ‘ice-golas’ as you enjoy the panoramic beauty of the Saputara horizons from the view point.

  • Sardar Shikhar:

    Take the next step

Another hill feature adjoining further north of the Governor’s hill, Sardar Shikhar is another 500 feet of climb with a gradual vertical slope. I guarantee you that the panting of your breath will be worth the view.

  • Go Boating:

    A must see activity here. Get aboard that boat and grab the pedals and just get going. The cool breeze, the gentle waves and the greenery of the spot is a mesmerizing change from the scorching summer heat. The boats are generally four-men and start from Rs.35/-. The boats are available for ride for about 30 minutes and allows you to take a complete circuit of the lake once.

  • Board the Cable Car:

    A further gradual climb of another 700 feet from the main town, the cable car can be seen moving slowly on top from the hillock on one side of the Saputara Lake to the other. Get a spine chilling experience as you hang mid-air at 1000 feet as the car sways across the valley from the start point to the finish.
