Whenever I passed by the streets of Guwahati to head to the railway station in a jiffy, I always used to pass by this pleasant and peaceful garden. From the windows of the bus, I could see couples pedaling on pedal boats, enjoying the serenity around. This garden was always on the eye, but never at hand. So, this time, on my way back home, I took out some time to enjoy the evening serenity in this garden.
Located bang opposite to the Assam State Museum, this garden is a joggers park with Diglipukhuri Lake at the centre, a boat club at another corner with a patio to enjoy the view from top. Weekends find the garden flooded with visitors, as for most of the weekdays, like the day I visited, it was calm, with very few visitors around.

Ideal to take a break as you move around in the city, Prashaanti Udyan offers a panoramic view of the city, reflecting upon the images of the small town on its still water surface. The best way to enjoy here is to come either in the early mornings or late afternoons, when the town noise levels are at its minimum.
It was late afternoon when I entered the park. Just wanted to check out the boating services here. The showers had just stopped and the water drops were still fresh on the flowers. A gentle breeze along with the clouds made the place ideal for a stroll. The water was still and I could spot a perfect mirror image on the water surface of the Diglipukhuri Lake.

As I walked along the edges of the park, I could see a small collection of roses, both pure and grafted, adding to the beauty of the place. The shining water drops on the petals had increased the glow of the flowers even more, as they gently waved with the breeze, as if they too were enjoying the moment.

I moved further along the pedestrian walk to explore more of the park. Few visitors on the benches enjoying the refreshing break of the monsoons from the scorching summer heat. Generally, the rainfall starts early in North East India, around beginning of May. The summer heat along with the humidity comes much later. Being a tropical rain-forest zone, Assam gets immensely humid during summers, drenching one in sweat almost immediately. However, the cool weather in the park kept the wrath of summer away, at least for that moment.
Activities to do here:
Morning and Evening Walks:-
The park is open round the year for the visitors. You can take a casual weekend break here, or if you are a health freak, you can also take a walk here in the early mornings or late evenings. If you are a Yoga freak, this end of the city generally remains silent during the mornings. An ideal place for practicing your Yoga stretches amidst the chirping birds during early mornings.
Water Walking Balloons and Pedal Boating:-:

Try to balance yourself with the water walking balloons at the other end of the park. The park is open for a longer duration during the summers and lesser time during winters.Take a gentle ride along the calm waters of the park, as you can explore the city while you move around on the pedal boat.
Take a break at the Prashaanti Udyan Restaurant:

If all is not enough, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy it under the umbrella shades on the benches across the park. Chit-chat and speak your heart out. Do not forget though to use the dust bins to dispose off the plastics and napkins after you have finished that coffee and contribute to keep the park clean while you enjoy its beauty.
